PE Overview and Skills

PE is a central part of the curriculum. Most classes will be taught by a PE specialist once a week providing high quality lessons for the pupils during curriculum time. Pupils have a variety of sports lessons each week to enable them to develop their sporting potential in many areas. St Margaret's will focus on one sport per half term, with a stress on sporting behaviours, fair play and teaching skills. The pupils get to experience a range of games and skills during each half term covering sports such as tag rugby, handball, hockey, football, netball, volleyball , taekwondo, cricket, rounders, athletics and tennis. St Margaret’s Academy also gives the opportunity to learn more individual sports such as skiing and archery. KS2 pupils also have swimming lessons every year.

As well as learning the skills involved in these games, all pupils have the chance to represent the school in competitive matches and competitions against other schools. This helps build their confidence, as well as learning the importance of taking part in competition. Intra-school competitions between classes or a whole group will be held throughout the year. We have had some great sporting success over the last year winning lots of events.

In addition to this, the dedicated staff provide an interesting and varied club programme every term to widen pupil’s experiences with football, netball, tag rugby, tennis and cricket being popular choices for pupils. Many of these clubs lead into inter-school competitions with other schools in the area. Whatever your sport, whatever your standard, all pupils are encouraged to take part as much as possible.
