Self-Portrait Winners visit Dunboyne 17.7.23

1st and 2nd place winners visited Dunboyne Court so share their self-portraits with the residents who couldn't make it down to school. It was a very rich and heart-warming trip for all involved, especially with the much-enjoyed game of Beetle Drive.

Many thanks once again to Phil, Heather and all our friends from Dunboyne who had the unenviable task of judging all the entries from children across the school, and for welcoming us to warmly.

Finally, well done to all those children who took part: each and every self-portrait was an achievement. It was an especially hard subject to judge this time because art is in the eye of the beholder.

Message from Phil at Dunboyne:

I write to a say thank you from Heather and myself for inviting us to judge the recent Portrait Competition.

Firstly and foremost we both felt privileged and honoured to once again be asked to judge the competition entries.

The standard of the art work was phenomenal and we felt a good number of the pieces would not have been out of place as exhibits in a commercial Art Gallery.

Hence although enjoyable, choosing winners was not an easy task and one big bonus was having the opportunity to once again chat with the artists about their work.

It was so rewarding for us to discuss with the children their thought process, skill, art medium and application in addition to the time and effort that they had applied.

Please pass on our thanks to the kitchen staff for the delicious and varied lunch they served us.

A final thank you goes to the staff and children who kindly visited us here at Dunboyne last Monday in order to present and admirably discuss their artistic portraits.

Although perhaps a little down on numbers here, everyone was extremely impressed with the exhibits and the well behaved articulate children and their confidence to chat.

The visit also gave us a wonderful opportunity to once again play ‘Beetle Drive’ and enjoy a fun time with them.

All in all I think another big success for all those involved in every aspect of the Portrait Competition.

So on behalf of all at Dunboyne I’d like to wish you, staff and children an enjoyable summer holiday.
