Y3 Rowan Explore the Sunshine State 14.7.23

Rowan class have been investigating 'Beyond the Magic Kingdom- what is the Sunshine State really like?'
This week we have researched and interpreted the countries that visitors come from when they visit the Magic Kingdom. We found out that most visitors come from countries that have a high standard of living , therefore they can afford air travel and holidays. We then looked at  what a peninsula is and why the Kennedy Space Centre is located in Florida, which is a peninsula. We found out that the Space Centre is at the far eastern side of Florida because it is next to the Atlantic Ocean so that parts of the rockets which are jettisoned during take off (such as the fuel tanks) fall into the ocean and can be easily retrieved. Secondly, the Space Centre is the closest point  in Florida to the equator so that a rocket launch can take advantage of the Earth's rotation from west to east. Finally this week we have interpreted climate graphs to compare the climate in the UK to that of Miami and were amazed to discover that even though it is sunny and hot in Miami, it is also very wet!
