Outdoor Classroom Day 2017

We love learning in the outdoors so were more than happy to join in with Outdoor Classroom Day on Thursday 18th May. There were some great activities planned for the children, linked to their current topics. The Lower Juniors were out parading around as Roman Soldiers and making aqueducts, the Upper Juniors were measuring and mapping the school buildings and grounds and the infants were story mapping with natural objects or off on a trip around Brixham.

The organisers of Outdoor Classroom Day say,

"Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. On the day, thousands of schools around the world take lessons outdoors and prioritise playtime.

Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature. Play not only teaches critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity, but is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood."

We see the benefits of outdoor learning and outdoor play every day at our school so it is great to be part of a global campaign to promote the importance of children being outdoors.
