Water flume and swimming pool

Hughie used the blue box that the wooden bricks are kept in as his swimming pool. He built some steps using the bricks up to the top of the box. He had to add an extra level so that the people could get off the steps and onto the slide. He added a cardboard tube for his water slide. He dropped his first person down the slide and encountered a problem...they hit the wall rather than landing in the 'water'. Hughie took some time to think about this and reconfigured his slide onto an angle. He then noticed that the steps would also need to be rearranged so he persevered and moved these as well. His hard work paid off and he was able to play happily with his creation. By following his own interests he was able to concentrate and demonstrated his ability to problem solve. As some children find it tricky to maintain attention in carpet sessions or adult led activities, it is our job to use their interests to draw out the learning we need.
