Y6 Christmas decorations - Structures 14.12.22

Year 6 carried out research into user needs and existing products by looking at a range of existing Christmas decorations. They researched the best type of joints to make a strong structure by using midget gems and cocktail sticks to explore triangulation.
They considered the frames used to both bridges and some of the tallest buildings in the world. Triangulation came up each time.
They then developed a simple design specification to guide the development of their ideas and products, taking account of constraints including time, resources and cost.

Finally the best bit... making!
They were able to competently select from and use appropriate tools (including glue guns and hacksaws) to accurately measure, mark out, cut, shape and join our construction materials to make frameworks  We then used finishing and decorative techniques to make our original designs come to life! The results look great!

Finally we critically evaluated our products against the original design criteria.
