Y1 Autumn Vegetable Soup 4.11.22

After harvesting the enormous pumpkin from the school Orchard Year 1 got to work turning it into a delicious Autumn vegetable soup. Children brought in seasonal vegetables from home and we got to work chopping, peeling and snipping our vegetables. We were very careful when handling the tools and listened carefully to the teacher to ensure we kept ourselves and our fingers safe. We were then able to taste the soup for our mid-morning snack if we wanted to. Even Mr Hughes popped in to try some!

We thought about where our food comes from and the Christian Harvest celebration by giving thanks for our food. We then put our maths skills into action by trying to count all the seeds in each of the pumpkins after making estimates about how many each one would have - our estimates ranged from 20- 1 million. We will continue to count them next week and check back to our original estimates.
