Deaf Awareness Week May 2019

This week (7th - 10th May 2019) has been national Deaf Awareness Week 2019 and we wanted to celebrate this at St. Margaret’s.  On Tuesday we launched Deaf Awareness Week in an assembly where the children were taught the BSL signs for all the play areas in the school, with Year 5 and 6 pupils acting out conversations with deaf children. 

The Teacher of the Deaf, Jo Saunders, continued the week by going into each class and delivering a Deaf Awareness and BSL session, matched to the ages and knowledge of the pupils.  Pupils enjoyed practising signed conversations with each other. 

Staff have also raised money for the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) in cake sales through the week.
