Year 1 mechanisms

Year 1's have started their unit on mechanisms this half term. We will be focusing on sliders and levers and finding out that different types of mechanisms are all around us. To begin with we made a simple slider or lever of our own choice. We then went on a mechanism hunt around the classroom to see what we could find. This inspired us to make our own with card and split pins. Soon we will use these skills to design our own product for somebody based on a design criteria.

After our initial investigation into mechanisms we used this knowledge to design a card which incorporated a slider or a lever. We designed our card and showed where the mechanism would be using arrows. We then brought our design to life and were very proud of our results.
